Introduction

DX-2824-IRW is an Internet Router with 2#10/100 WAN Ethernet ports and 4#10/100 LAN Ethernet ports. Powered with high-performance Intel IXP network processor, DX-2824-IRW delivers higher availability of Internet access control and network protection. DX-2824-IRW supports various VPN functions such as IPSec, L2TP and PPTP in easily establishing VPN connections.

Firewall

DX-2824-IRW supports packet filtering based on source/destination IP address, protocols, ports, source/destination MAC address. DX-2824-IRW supports application layer filtering based on URL and keywords. DX-2824-IRW controls Internet access, supports schedule-based ACL and protects the internal network against external attacks.

VPN functions

DX-2824-IRW supports various VPN functions such as IPSec, L2TP and PPTP. VPN tunnels are restricted to 16, up to 16 concurrent tunnels. DX-2824-IRW supports dynamic IP address VPN connections, site-to-site VPN, remote access VPN (client-to-site). IPSec provides features including auto key (IKE) and manual key, ESP/AH protocols, DES/3DES/AES encryption algorithm, MD5/SHA-1 hash algorithm, main mode, aggressive mode, Anti-Replay and NAT Traversal.

 2 WAN Ports and NAT

DX-2824-IRW has 2 WAN ports supporting mixed connections of DSL, fiber optical and cable modem. Under the PPPoE mode, DX-2824-IRW provides 3 dial modes to prevent network wastage. MAC address modification and cloning are available under the DHCP mode.
The 2-WAN ports design provides 2 Internet connections, supports load balancing and real-time backup. DX-2824-IRW supports network flow distribution based on bandwidth ratio to optimize the bandwidth utilization. This supports policy-based routing of different ISPs. DX-2824-IRW supports NAPT/NAT, routing, and hybrid mode to meet the needs of complicated networks. This router supports port forwarding and DMZ host for external services like HTTP, telnet and FTP.

Policy Database

With policy database, DX-2824-IRW will process several complex policy-based routings. The database can be auto updated similar to Windows Update. It simplifies the configuration and avoids cumbersome maintenance for customers.
Policy database realizes the convenient one-click operation of ARP Spoofing defense, DoS/DDoS attack defense, virus attack defense, IM (QQ, MSN) blocking and P2P (emule, BitTorrent) blocking, which greatly simplifies the configuration. Dx-2824-IRW provides policy-based routing of different ISPs, so that one can directly update the policy database instead of adding static routings one by one.

Bandwidth Control

Algorithm-based bandwidth control will optimize the bandwidth utilization restricting software such as BT, P2P effectively. The router enables normal hosts to exceed the max speed occasionally and reduces the speed of the hosts that uses P2P software.
DX-2824-IRW enables schedule bandwidth control.  When network is heavily loaded, all users receive rational bandwidth, and while the network is lightly loaded, bandwidth control will be disabled. DX-2824-IRW restricts the maximum number of concurrent NAT sessions, TCP sessions, UDP sessions and ICMP sessions, which effectively prevents overloading of download software like P2P.

User Administration

With DX-2824-IRW, each computer of internal network can take different policy (bandwidth limit, Max NAT sessions, IM block, P2P block. etc) according to the needs of customers. This user administration enhances the flexibility of management and reduces the workload of the network administrator.
DX-2824-IRW supports IP/MAC address binding, invalid IP address or MAC address filtering. This router binds all the dynamic IP/MAC entries with one-click operation. With ARP broadcast control, the router can protect LAN hosts against ARP spoofing attacks.

Port mirroring

DX-2824-IRW supports port mirroring that simplifies network monitoring. DX-2824-IRW offers real-time details on each port, and provides ability of sending a copy of all network packets seen on one switch port to a network monitoring connection on another switch port.

Featured Monitoring

DX-2824-IRW offers different modes of monitoring and diagnosis, which can monitor network access dynamically and help the administrator to trap and resolve the network fault quickly. This function enables the ability of discovering the network abnormality and abnormal hosts. Network administrators can quickly discover the abnormal phenomena of slow network by monitoring the bandwidth of each port, the uploading/downloading bandwidth of each user and NAT sessions of each user.


Configuration and Management

DX-2824-IRW offers user-friendly Web interface, delivers an easy-to-use platform with rich functions. DX-2824-IRW supports traditional Command Line Interface (CLI) with more functions, so that both Web and CLI can be used to manage the remote devices.
DX-2824-IRW enables SNMP interface for remote management of SNMP server. This router also supports Syslog for remote message forwarding from Syslog server. DX-2824-IRW supports configuration backup and restore through TFTP and Web, so that one can save the current configuration file into the computer and import the configuration file into the router.
